The coast from the air

Aerial shot of a Mallorca bay with anchored boats, filmed on 21 May 2026, four days after the Madrid postcard series and with the same approach: going out to shoot when the light cooperates, not when a client is in a hurry.

The shot rests entirely on the colour of the water, which shifts from turquoise to blue with depth —a gradient barely visible at sea level, because the human eye at water height doesn't have the perspective needed to compare different parts of the bay at once. From the air, by contrast, the whole bay fits in one frame and the shift in tone reads at a glance: it's exactly the kind of shot that can't be got from the ground or from a boat, however wide the lens.

Flying over the sea also means accounting for the wind, which behaves differently with no buildings or terrain to break it, and the light reflecting off the water, which changes the shot depending on the time of day. It's shot looking for the window where the reflection helps the image rather than blowing it out.
